Just Eat Takeaway acquires Grubhub…
…effectively smashing any Uber Eats/Grubhub merger fantasies. The acquisition comes literally out of left field, considering all the hype around a potential Uber acquisition these past few weeks. Guess they showed their cards too early 😳

POV: Uber watching Just Eat Takeaway with its new bae, Grubhub.
The acquisition cost Just Eat Takeaway a hefty $7.3 billion. It’s a strong investment though, giving the company its first real presence in North America.
A real stunner of a deal preventing Uber Eats from surpassing DoorDash as the largest US-based food delivery app. On the flip side, think of all the name possibilities! Case in point: Just Eat Grub.
Speaking of DoorDash, the company is facing a lawsuit from the San Francisco DA.
Chesa Boudin, the San Fran District Attorney, sued DoorDash earlier this week for “illegally misclassifying employees as independent contractors”. Check the tweet out here.
While that doesn’t seem like much on its face, the misclassification deprives workers of labor law protections:
“Misclassifying workers deprives them of the labor law safeguards to which they are entitled, denying workers minimum wage and overtime pay, unemployment insurance and protection from discrimination, among other things.”
The suit would ensure that DoorDash is fined up to $2,500 for each violation! We’ll keep you updated on the story.
Michael Siebel replaces Alex Ohanian on the Reddit board.
Just over a week ago, Ohanian resigned from his job at Reddit and asked for the team to replace him with a Black candidate. Solid move from a solid guy. Alex was praised for his move and is walking the walk for effecting change in the tech industry — an ecosystem that is notoriously white and homogenous. Big ups to Mr. Ohanian 💪

His replacement, Michael Seibel, is a straight powerhouse who was also the first black board member at Y Combinator. He became the accelerator’s CEO in 2014. He also co-founded the live-streaming service now known as Twitch.
Yeah. Guy’s a big deal!
Fun fact: Twitch was originally called Justin.tv. 😮
Last but not least, buh-bye political Facebook ads!

Starting today, Facebook members will have the chance to turn off political advertising on-platform, giving more control back to the user. The next time you see an ad, you’ll be able to click it right off, and can also disable them altogether in your settings. 👋

Anybody try doing an ab workout lately? Trying to work off my quarantine blubber and looking for recs.
Update: just found Playbook. Godsend.

Playbook gives fitness content creators the tools they need to monetize and reach their users.
It’s a pretty unique and simple tool calling itself the “Patreon” of fitness. The platform effectively allows creators to turn their iPhone videos into subscription income, while also providing other mobile technology tools and analytics.
On the end users’ side, consumers can register for a subscription at either $15/month or $99/year to consume content from their fav instructors.
Playbook has already raised $3 M in seed funding for its platform, with some attention from some pretty big names in fitness (think: Magnus Lydgback, trainer to Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck, and Boss Everline, trainer to Kevin Hart).
So. Don’t have a Peloton? Hop onto Playbook instead!
Check Playbook out here.
Coolness meter: celebrity-approved. And Kevin Hart.

🍳 A Healthy Serving of...
🎶 Do you ever feel like a plastic bag? 🎶
We’ve talked about imposter’s syndrome and that nagging feeling of not belonging. But what about that feeling when you actually fail or make a mistake?
Been there. Done that. Not fun.
A wise man once told me that everything will be “alright, alright, alright”. So with those words of wisdom in mind, I’ll tell you what I told myself then (i.e. lesson #12): as an intern, it’s part of your job description to be imperfect.
Every time a company hires an intern, it’s making an investment in your potential to be something even greater. But along the way, you’re bound to make mistakes. Nobody’s perfect, after all!
I encourage you to fail and to fail quickly. Don’t try to be perfect! Failure is inevitable in any work environment and avoiding it would be like trying to avoid the fact that The Office is the greatest American comedy in the past 3 decades.

That’s all I got for you guys! Thanks for reading this issue of The Cereal Intern. Be sure to like and/or comment and help a brother out 🙏
