You know those sad pangs you get when you finish a new Netflix series and the next season isn’t slated until Fall 2021? How do you fill that void? With food? Is it normal to eat three plates of homemade nachos in a row?
…asking for a friend.

🥄 Today's Spoonful
Twitter hit Trump with the ‘manipulated media’ tag. 👀
Donald Trump:

Twitter: 😑
In an ongoing back-and-forth on social media, Twitter has held its ground and continued to screen the President’s content, in spite of Trump’s recent moves to target Section 230.
For good reason, too — here’s the original video shared by CNN. ‘Nuff said.
Speaking of social media smackdowns…
Both France and Germany made big decisions on social media regulation this weekend. But those decisions were on the opposite ends of the spectrum.
France 🇫🇷 decided to reject a law forcing social media platforms to delete hate-speech content. Germany 🇩🇪, on the other hand, passed a provision with stronger hate-speech rules, requiring platforms to send suspected criminal content to police when reported by users.
Social media will continue to heat up over the coming months. But, hey — at least now I can identify plant species with Snapchat!

Comment dites-vous “General Data Protection Regulation” in English?
No one?
This past weekend, France’s top court in admin. law rejected Google’s appeal against a $57M fine. Why were they fined, you ask? For not disclosing personal information processing… processes to its Android users.
Time to start actually paying attention to the Terms and Conditions, I guess. Anyone down for a reading group?
Theaters are opening back up in the states. 🍿
Ready to wear a quasi-breathable mask through a 3 hour-long Tarantino-flick?
AMC, which had previously reported that masks would be optional at all reopening venues, recently reversed its policy to require customers to wear masks. On July 15th, 450 AMC locations will open back up for business, with masks on sale for a $1 each!

🥣 Cereal of the Day
Today’s Cereal of the Day is another Product Hunt gem. Its launch was outvoted only by Hey, the new Basecamp project that’s reinventing e-mail.
Looks like our friends over at Spike (profiled in this Cereal Intern) have got some big market competition on their hands.
Anywho, here’s Polymarket.

Just imagine: you and your next door neighbor are getting heated over when the Coronavirus lockdown in Massachusetts will lift. So, instead of throwing hands…
You bet on the outcome.
It’s an interesting concept and the root of Polymarket’s business model.
One of the biggest problems with social media today is the spread of misinformation and the lack of reporting accountability (*cough* manipulated media *cough). Because everyone has an opinion and an open platform to share their thoughts, scraping the world wide web for trustworthy news can be surprisingly difficult.
Polymarket’s solution: let people bet on current events. Vegas, baby!
“On Polymarket, speculators bet on future event outcomes and profit from accuracy, and spectators can follow markets to derive actionable insight from the trading activity, helping them better plan for their future. With all the conflicting ‘expert’ opinions on social media, Polymarket lets people put their money where their mouth is and profit from being correct.” (source)
It’s an interesting spin on the world of news production (read: gamification?), reimagining the public’s role in the reporting cycle.
Wonder what the over-under is for colleges returning to normalcy in the fall?
Check Polymarket out here!
Coolness meter: Approved by Las Vegas.
🍳 A Healthy Serving of...
Today’s lesson is on temperance.
I know, I know: Jeremy, you just profiled a startup that is making betting accessible. You were just talking about Las Vegas!
Hear me out. Lesson #13: Learn to say no.

All things are good in moderation. While that’s an important lesson for betting (*looking at my uncle planning on dropping $2k on Coronavirus outcomes), it’s a good tip for managing your internship, as well.
I have an impossible time saying no. It’s not in my blood. If something excites me, game over — you have my attention.
The problem with that is I only have so much bandwidth. I can’t wholeheartedly work on 10 projects at the same time, no matter how much I color code my schedule and block off my time. Cutting off your sleeping hours won’t work either, folks — trust me. You need your beauty rest.
Here’s a revelation: take the opportunities one or two at a time. It’s best to dive deep into a few projects than to spread yourself thin over twelve projects.
Learn to say no to exciting projects so you can focus full-time on your current internship or startup. The opportunities for more will always be there.
Aaaand that’s a wrap. Thanks for reading this issue of The Cereal Intern. I appreciate all the well-wishes and support you all send my way ❤️
